Welcome to our blog!

I have decided to start a blog as a way to keep the people we love up to date on what is happening in our lives. Really, it's a way for me to keep friends and family in the loop on what is going on with our son, Maddox. Being that everyone is scattered all over the place, I felt that this might be the best way. I will try to keep things as up to date as possible. Feel free to visit, leave comments or completely ignore it. Enjoy!

Standing on his own

I completely freaked out last night because Maddox stood on his own for the first time. He pulled himself up using the coffee table as he usually does when he's interested in cruising around the living room, then he just let go and stood there for a second or two before falling on his tush. He's been practicing it all day today as well. I'm so not ready for my baby to be standing...he's only 9mths! I want him to stay a baby for a little longer :). Every milestone he achieves brings me joy and a hint of sadness at his growing up. I guess all mothers go through this too. Hopefully walking will be a ways off.

I finally got the slideshow piece working on this thing, so enjoy the slideshow of our family pictures. I got a video of Maddox laughing hysterically at Stefan (join the club, I know) that I'm hoping to get posted tonight or tomorrow, assuming I can get it working. Enjoy!

Baby and Dog Free Weekend

This past weekend my mother-in-law, Les, wanted some time with Maddox so Stefan and I decided to go skiing. Now we've left Maddox with Whitney so we could go out to dinner or to a function or something, but we haven't left him overnight since September. We were pretty excited to get a weekend to ourselves and for Maddox to have some time with his grandparents. I was totally fine with everything and looking forward to it until we were actually leaving. It's not that I was worried about Maddox or how he would do (although I was petrified he would keep her up all night rendering her completely exhausted), nor was it that I was worried that he would cry and miss me. I was going through the separation anxiety. I realized that I am lucky enough to spend just about 24x7 with my son, since I work from home. Even though Whitney comes to watch him while I'm working, I'm still right in the other room and I definitely sneak in for kisses and hugs every so often. So it was with sadness that we headed to Cataloochee in North Carolina for some late in the year skiing. We ended up having an absolute blast with Brent and Kiki (who drove up on Saturday morning). We even got through the day without any major injuries. I'm happy to report that although it was only my 3rd time skiing, I didn't actually fall while skiing. Of course I fell off the ski lift twice. That's right, I've never fallen off a ski lift and I fell off of it twice in a row on Saturday. I'm chalking it up to exhaustion since it was my last 2 runs of the day after 4hrs or so of skiing. It was terribly embarrasing, but I got over it.

We could barely walk on Saturday night and Sunday morning, so we decided to stop into Massage Envy (just opened up near our house...yay!) for a couple of one hour massages before picking up Nelson from the Kennel and Maddox from his grandparents. Fabulous! We ended the day with a great dinner at my in-laws house. Other than the whole spring forward which we (of course) forgot about, a great weekend. Maybe the next time we have a baby and dog free weekend it'll be a little easier to leave my boys...
